These camcorders are easy to use, The XA45 and XA40 have a 3-inch touch panel LCD screen so you can simply touch a function on the screen to change a setting. And the LCD screen makes it easy to see details in your scene for judging focus and color. Plus, there's a tiltable 1.56 megapixel electronic viewfinder with a large eye-cup that tilts upwards to 45 degrees.
Now, this comes in really handy if you are shooting in a bright environment or tight spaces.
Now the lens ring is easy to reach and operate while shooting and can be used to change either zoom or focus, by just flipping a switch.
Now both models have a detachable handle adding dual XLR inputs for 4 Channel professional audio recording, HDMI output, and the XA45 has a 3G-SDI output so the Video signal can be sent out for streaming or to an external video monitor or recorder.
And the SDI terminal on the XA45 is the only difference between the two models.

Now the zoom speed is adjustable and can be controlled by the seesaw style lever on the body, the handle, or by the using the lens ring.
Adopting EF lens series technology, the lens has an 8-Bladed Circular Aperture -- so you can get beautiful bokeh especially with scenes that have points of light. And to top it all off, it has a built-in ND filter.
Sometimes you need specialized recording modes to capture a scene. So for fast moving subjects you can use a slow-motion recording option to slow the action or use the fast option to speed time up and show rapid action.
Interval recording can speed up things even more, creating dramatic time-lapse images. These settings display on screen and the camcorder does the math for you, which enables
the effects to be verified at a glance.
When you need to record for long periods of time, the XA45 and the XA40 have two SD card the XA45 and the XA40 have two SD card slots that can be used for either dual or relay recording.
